The National Communications Commission (NCC) is planning to propose an amendment to the Satellite Radio and Television Act to establish an ethics committee to monitor its evaluation of satellite tv and radio services. The commission has already completed an amendment of Radio and Television Act earlier this year. The amendment stated that satellite tv providers and radio operators should establish ethics committees to regulate the quality of the program. The new amendment would add to the requirement of the evaluation sheet. The operators who have established ethics committee will get maximum of five points on their evaluation sheets. Those who fail to follow the criteria will get a notice to address the issue within a stipulated time period. Article 6 of Radio and Television states that the operators that fail to address the issues could have their licenses cancelled. The commission evaluates digital dish TV providers every two years. The amendment would also allow commission to invite media professionals or representatives from civic groups to evaluate satellite tv service. Chien Hsu-cheng, deputy director of the commission’s Communication Department quoted that the civic representatives would be drawn from people who have expressed concern over the development of the nation’s media industry.

Today, the market is flooded with cable TV and satellite TV providers, yet there is another alternative to get your satellite TV channels over the internet. More and more people are watching live TV on the net. This is due to the increase in video quality of online TV and huge number of channels that you can watch online. The technology has advanced to that extent where you can find thousands of channels and watch all of them with high definition quality. The improvements that have been made are incredible and many people are using computers as media centers. If you want to watch live TV on the web, you need to find internet TV viewing software to install in your computer. There are number of software available to select from but you need to look and pay attention to. A good selection of dish tv channels is must in good online TV software program. You should get thousands of TV channels including the major networks. One of the amazing features that digital satellite tv offers is that you can schedule and record favorite programs. It is like a “Tivo” through which you will be able to record any show so that you can view it later. Not all software provide you with this feature. You can hook up your computer to your TV set if you want to watch it on your main TV set. You need to ensure that you are not charged for it. The good Internet TV programs will bill you only once for lifetime access to their services. You will not be billed any monthly fees which obviously makes it great value in comparison to cable or satellite TV. Do not go for any software program that charge you a monthly fee as you can find a better deal. The basic Internet TV program will cost you about $45 for loads of channel which is worth it. It is also useful if you have a laptop, the software enables you to watch TV even if you are on roads. For television buffs, it’s worth considering.

Quest Communications Inc. said on Tuesday that it agreed to sell DirecTV Group Inc. (DTV) satellite TV service to its customers for a period of five more years. Both the companies are facing major competition from cable TV providers. For Denver telecommunication provider, television represents one of the key services in its bundled offering as it keeps pace with cable TV providers. Unlike AT&T Inc. (T) or Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ), Qwest Communications lacks its own video strategy. Presently, it is focusing on its core high speed Internet service. Meanwhile, DirecTV gets an additional source of subscriber growth. The company is almost nabbing customers away from cable companies and from its rival group Dish Network Corp. (DISH). The financial terms were not disclosed, but Qwest previously got a monthly cut of subscription fee that provided a nice recurring revenue stream. Both the companies said that, little had changed financially. Qwest does not have its own wireless or TV service, therefore the company’s first quarter total access line fell more than 11% from a year ago. It has also partnered with DirecTV to fend off competition from Comcast Corp. Both the companies have announced several new services that integrate satellite TV with phone and Web services. Steve Sklar, director of product and partnership management for Qwest, said that we have new capabilities in this deal to more proactively manage the customer’s experience. The new services should prevent the subscribers from leaving Qwest and DirecTV for the cable companies.

Dish TV network, the leading satellite TV provider in India said on Monday that, it has planned to raise the prices of its set-top boxes by 100 rupees each. This is due to the rise in its customs duty by 5 percent. The hike in prices of the set top boxes will be effective from Monday onwards as said by the officials of dish tv in a press conference. The component cost of the set top boxes has gone up considerably due to rise in dollar exchange rate over the year. Salil Kapoor, the chief operating officer, of Dish Network said in the statement that the company had tried to minimize the effect on consumers by absorbing the rising costs over the year. Mr. Kapoor also added that the trend is on constant rise and the company has reached a level where absorbing the entire costs internally seems to a tough proposition. Now, digital dish tv will offer the bare set top boxes at Rs.1, 590 while the combo offer with three months platinum subscription will be available for Rs. 2,190.
